Free junk, can you believe it!

Post by 72 usmc »

I have been raking leaves and cleaning the gutters for a 91 year old lady for the last 7-8 years I guess. Well, today she asked if I still like military junk, that is what she called it.
I said yes, and she said come in and get this stuff from the attic closet. Here is what I found and was given. Her husbands stuff from WW II.
It has papers from 28 Nov. 1945. She said he was in the Army.

The attic heat kind of messed with the stock and scabbard.

The buckle Nazi Nco style
If the word Brass , next to and on the same line as Italian Carbine refers to the second line, then it makes more sense since some German belt buckles were silver, brass, silver coated brass and this one is what looks like Aluminum with pebble grain texture with silver coating. This was the only belt buckle in the drawer with the knife and document. The rifle was in the closet. There is no such thing as a brass carcano carbine. It is possible the brass referred to the brass Carcano enblock mannlicher clip that was with the rifle???

Some info on a similar buckle:

The rifle. It looks like it was never used like the buckle.

So the "junk " is still out there. I almost fell over, and she would not take a dime. Some days are just lucky. I have no idea why it is called a brass italian carbine ??? The signature of the unit ID. It looks like 1st Lt. Inf. HQ Co. VI Corps. This is US Army.

Scores!

It makes me wonder how much of this stuff still exists. I'm guessing lots of servicemen brought stuff home and the wife stuffed it in the attic never to be looked at again. They just got on with life. There can't be much left hidden, there just aren't many left alive (or their wives).

A good case of what goes around, comes around. That was very generous of her to gift you all of those very cool items. I'm sure she knows that you'll appreciate and take care of them. Congratulations.

Look under the wrist for a German depot stamp. Might find one on that one.
