Post by vandle »

I finally found an 1893 Romanian Steyr for my collection.
Its a 1913 manufacture long rifle.

The condition of this rifle is surprisingly very good

The1893 has reinforcing ribs attached to the bottom of the magazine to prevent damage.

The bayonet is side mounted.
This rifle still has its matching cleaning rod.
Actually its a all matching rifle which is a bonus.

The front barrel band still retains the stacking hook.

The final year for the contract was 1914 when war broke out.
figures vary depending on source but approx 80k was supplied to
Romania. Further production rifles went to the Austrian Army.

Maybe a dumb question but is it 6.5x53R or 8x50R?

Unfortunately not yet, the weather has been terrible, one day the sun will come out. We have a weekend shoot coming up. Hope to shoot it then.

Beautiful rifle. High quality of Steyr production.

What a find!
The cartridge is one of the early great ones and is very accurate. I have the Dutch rifle and carbine and would love to have a Romanian long rifle as well. Both shoot very well at long range.
