Turkish Berthier Forestry Carbine

Post by ShaneB »

1948 Turkish Forestry Carbine modified from a St. Etienne Mle 1907/15 rifle. Bolt and receiver were given a new serial number by the Turks. Stock shows a good bit of wear from use, with a few cracks and some missing wood from the handguard. Came with an original sling that I have since taken off and stored as it was starting to crack from age. About 5000 of these carbines are believed to have been converted for use by the Turkish forestry department to protect their forests from illegal logging. Very happy to have an example of one in my collection.

Very nice example. The 3 round clips are hard to find.

I love the pot-bellied wood stock around the magazine!

I have two on the way currently (nearly $60 for the pair) so I can finally fire this rifle with the few rounds of 8mm Lebel I have haha.

Right on! I have one that I bought a few years back. I actually had a three round clip and 3 rounds before I had the rifle. Neat story behind those particular models.

I like mine. Clips aren't too hard to find. Fun to shoot and fun to try and find ammo for too!
